The perspectives of California Native groups on colonization, settlement and statehood have varied over time but what has persisted is an erasure of narratives that continue to threaten the existence of indigenous people, land and cultures. But despite centuries of suppression and lack of recognition, the diverse nations within California and Baja California continue to live in their ancestral homelands.
